What is Intumescent Coating?
Intumescent coating is special paint designed to be used in buildings as a fire resistance measure. The clever chemicals in intumescent paints expand rapidly when exposed to extreme temperatures to form an effective protective layer around the treated structures. This provides the essential steelworks up to 120 minutes of added protection to help maintain the structural integrity of the building.
On all commercial and industrial buildings in the UK, it is required by law to apply a layer of intumescent paint on all load bearing steel structures on all standard developments. This is to help stop the spread of fire should one break out in your premises, protecting the building and the people inside.
